A Brief History

Over 20 years ago a group of people began gathering together with the hopes of seeing Grace Presbyterian Church get planted.  However, that was not in God’s timing.  It wasn’t until 2020 that Andrew Macpherson responded to God’s calling to come to Tauranga from Palmerston North and be set apart by the Northern Presbytery to plant Grace Church Tauranga.  In January 2020 we began worship.  Across the world, however, the corona virus was making itself known.  This did not stop the Lord’s work but it did change how we might have imagined our first years as a church.  Despite the struggles, the church has remained steadfast.  In 2023, Andrew Macpherson announced his intended retirement to be August 2024.  This meant that the church was going to need a new pastor to replace Andrew.

Again, the Lord was working in the hearts of both the church and in Paul’s heart.  God began placing a desire in the heart of Paul Henry to take up the reigns from Andrew.  Then, in February of 2024, the Northern Presbytery saw fit to call Paul Henry to replace Andrew as the next pastor.  With the Lord’s leading, Paul Henry received that call and he and his wife moved churches from Rotorua to Tauranga in August 2024.

Our history as a church is not long.  We continue to grow and we continue to reach out to those in our community to make history together.  Perhaps God is leading to also be part of our history.  Would you consider coming to check us out?
